Celebrating International Women’s Day with Doyenne

This year, on International Women’s Day, Doyenne Property chose to celebrate with an empowering event with all-female speakers, including our very own Kerry Leigh, to kickstart the day.

Something they were acutely aware of as women in the property industry was imposter syndrome. The challenge for Laughology was to have fun with this topic and give the audience some tools to overcome the barriers that imposter syndrome can create.

Whilst the name suggests otherwise, Imposter Syndrome is not a diagnosable illness but rather a term that encompasses the feelings and self-limiting beliefs that can occur in women due to factors including upbringing, patriarchal narratives and systemic sexism.

Kerry had the audience howling from the beginning with funny stories, giving the audience permission to share their own with each other - relaxing and connecting with humour and feeling safe enough to be vulnerable. Impostor syndrome can lead to the opposite as people exhaust themselves, keeping up a ‘front’.

Kerry then explained the thought process and the power of ‘wonky thoughts’ and equipped the audience with accessible tools to FLIP and disarm these thoughts to feel better and more in control. By identifying unhelpful language and behaviours and showing women how to replace these with more helpful ones, they can be their very best selves at work.
