Bridekirk Dovenby - Happiness Award nominess
Bridekirk Dovenby CE Primary School, from Cockermouth, Cumbria, whose school motto is 'Work Together, Aim High, Shine Bright, has been nominated as the happiest primary school in the UK in the school's section of this year's National Happiness Awards.

Rose Rowlands, a Parent Governor at the school, said in her nomination: 'Bridekirk Dovenby C of E Primary School is a fabulous, outstanding school. We are lucky enough to situated in a rural spot in West Cumbria, within a stone's throw of the Lake District National park.

'We have 140 happy children on roll and Mrs Fish, our Headteacher, is in her 4th year at the helm. She took over from the previous Head who had been in post for over 20 years and has brought with her buckets of enthusiasm and plenty of new ideas to enrich the curriculum for our children and inspire and support the staff.

'We have an extremely dedicated staff family, most of whom have been with the school for many years. Many of them also choose our school for their children.

'Our pupils are amazing. Because they feel safe and valued, they succeed. We support an above-average number of SEND pupils for the size of the school, and we treat every child as an individual.

'We feel that our school should receive this award in recognition of the dedication of the staff and leadership team, the exciting curriculum and opportunities it provides and the way our pupils 'work together, aim high and shine bright!'
