St John the Evangelist C of E VA School, nominated for a Happiest School award 2017
Simon Watson, Vice Chair of Governors, who made the nominations said:
'We appointed a new Head Teacher in 2014 who supported by the Governing Board has turned our school around from one that was in special measures to one now bordering on outstanding. He has a fantastic positive mental attitude which has cascaded down across all our staff. They are all engaged, happy, enthusiastic, and love coming to work each day.
'We are a large primary school with 450 pupils. The Governing Body and Headteacher drove the school to define and communicate a set of values. All children understand and can talk about the school values of Respect, Unity, Self-Belief, Success, Responsibility, and Inspire. One value is chosen for each term and reflected in the work the children do. The value is demonstrated through the school assemblies, and the feedback we get from parents.
'The enthusiasm for the school goes both ways and is also strongly felt by the Governing Board. Most days you find at least one of us visiting the school in one capacity or another. We have committed as a governing body to completing the Oxford Diocese Board of Education “Excellence in Governance” training over 12 months and will be attending 13 training modules to ensure we are providing outstanding governance for our school.
'Our school and Headteacher were both recently recognised as National Leaders of Education!
'The school recently wrote its own school song, between the pupils and the teachers. The song was recorded and is now on the school website – you only have to watch it to see what a happy school we are!'

Nominations close at midnight on Friday, 20th October. Winners and runners-up will receive their prizes at a happiness-studded ceremony in London on Friday, 17th November.
