Tolworth Junior - fantastic 2 days of primary school workshops
Laughology provides primary school workshops and inset days across the UK, and in December we had the pleasure of delivering a fantastic 2 days of primary school workshops for Tolworth Junior School, in Surbiton. A school who's ethos is to"provide a happy, inclusive and safe environment" under a school slogan of "happy children, successful learners!"
With a school slogan that echoes the Laughology mantra of "creating happy - centred schools" I started by working with years 5 and 6 (180 students in all).
The year 5's worked with me on philosophical thinking that helped develop deep thinking original thinking, listening skills and effective communication. The students were funny eloquent and honest in their contributions, and the energy was electric. One student siad at the end that "he felt like his brain had been tied up in knots"
Yr 6 had an introduction to their amazing brain. The session encourages students in a variety of ways to understand the brain and how it works/can be used effectively to learn in fun and interesting ways. They looked at risk taking; they were shown the art of memory; a little bit of magic, not to mention one of them played the part of a sabre tooth tiger.
The students openness to engage and throw themselves into the sessions was for me the highlight. I enjoyed the sessions as much as the student appeared to enjoy them.
