Supporting the NHS

If there’s one thing everyone agrees on at present, it’s that all NHS workers are heroes.  So, when we were asked if we could support them, we said hell yeah!

Currently, resilience and forward-thinking are valuable workplace skills which enable people to carry on and stay mentally fit. This is particularly true in the NHS. Laughology’s FLIP-it thinking workshop has been popular throughout lockdown and our contacts in the NHS wanted to understand if it could help some of their teams. We worked with them to design different sessions which were recorded so they could be shared with wider audiences.

FLIP stands for Focus, Language, Imagination and Pattern Breaking. The model mixes the psychology of humour with cognitive behavioural therapy techniques to help people change mindset and feel better about challenges.

Our NHS sessions were well-received. In feedback, over 94% said the session had given them some practical skills to be more resilient. Over 88% said they felt more positive.

Laughology’s FLIP-it thinking keynote introduces the basics of the model.  For longer-term change we deliver programmes that help embed new behaviours and thinking.  We are currently working with the NHS looking at ways to do this.
