Motivating teams at Natwest

Motivating teams post-pandemic can be a challenge. After all, the world has been turned upside down over the past few months.

Wearing your PJs and slippers to attend a meeting would have raised a few HR eyebrows back in 2019. But fast-forward to 2021 and loungewear chic for meeting your boss is the norm.

Work and home have become intertwined and every day feels monotonous. Most of us are on first name terms with our Amazon delivery person and home lunches are whatever is easy and available. It’s no wonder many of us have lost motivation. Sameness does that, as humans love variety. Even if working from home is okay, there’s a general consensus that the workload is overbearing.

So the challenge now is to work out how we get some equilibrium back.

With this in mind, Natwest asked Laughology’s Stephanie Davies to support their teams with an hour of practical ways people can feel motivated again and manage workload.

The hour-long session was attended by over 150 people and shared information on:

  • Batch tasking - a way of managing workload by batching certain tasks that are similar together.
  • Habit stacking - a technique that looks at using old habitual behaviours to signal to the brain when to do a new more helpful behaviour
  • What to do when you feel overloaded to feel in control

The session was so well received Natwest has asked for a repeat session. So with more Curly Wurlys ordered, Stephanie is back for round two in September.
