Growth mindset and high performing teams

Some people would think that a growth mindset is only for organisations that need to improve or change, but that’s not the case.

Growth mindset is even more important in high performing cultures. So, when 3StepIT asked Stephanie Davies if Laughology could support them with introducing growth mindset, she was keen to step up, three times, to the challenge. Sorry, bad pun.

3stepIT is an ethically focused IT company, creating sustainable tech. Their mission is to help IT move from the traditional linear take-make-dispose approach, to the circular take-make-reuse model. In doing so they help organisations build a more sustainable world and future.

During the crisis they have grown (with the demand of IT increasing) and have had to think differently to meet this demand.  2020 has seen us all think about how we can do things differently and challenge ourselves to learn new skills.  3StepIT has taken this to another level, using it as a time to challenge themselves to achieve more, reflect and review and continually develop at a very fast pace.

This year they’ve accomplished more than they thought possible and this has spurred them on to continue to think differently about how everyone can adopt new ways of thinking and working for the greater good.  Laughology was pleased to help and has supported their end of year conferences to introduce the theory and concept of growth for high performing teams.

When we think about high-performing teams, we may only consider hard metrics like productivity or efficiency. And of course, the definition of a high-performing team needs to be attached in some way to outputs.  However, if teams only focus on the outputs they can miss new opportunities to develop and try new things as the focus is purely on achieving and avoiding failure at all cost.

Growth mindset means continually examining and questioning how to do things better, differently and looking beyond what you already do. It’s the belief that everyone can all develop further and have the ability and skills to be better.  This was part of the messaging that Stephanie was asked to bring to life, running sessions with leaders and the wider global team - with the additional challenge of making sure it was fun and the humour landed well in different locations. Though, as a scouser, Stephanie has had great experience of this, making sure her sense of humour lands in the southern counties where she lives now.

The conferences were very successful, with huge engagement across the globe, helping to kickstart their growth mindset culture programme as they move into 2021. Laughology is excited to support this going forward, especially as 3StepIT are all about creating a better and more sustainable future.

Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
