Growth mindset and FLIP with RBS

Lead happiness consultant Dave Keeling loves to go on tour (any excuse to get out of the house), so he was thrilled by the opportunity to hot foot it around the country working with RBS graduates. Last month, Dave delivered a series of keynotes and half-day workshops on building resilience in Edinburgh, Manchester and London.

As part of their 360-degree training, the graduates experience a vast amount of change. Laughology were brought onboard to give them helpful strategies to enable growth mindset, which in turn helps them grasp opportunity and enjoy the process of learning.

One such strategy is FLIP, a system developed by Laughology. It gives people a better understanding of how they think and behave and more importantly helps individuals to change the thoughts and behaviours that hinder progress. The sessions were a catalyst for positive change and have been very successful due to the innovative blend of humour, knowledge and interaction.

Dave’s top three tips to help build resilience:

  1. View every thought, feeling or action (good, bad or indifferent) as an opportunity to develop yourself. After all, growing your brain is what learning is all about.
  2. If you’re not smiling, smile on credit. The first thing to go when we are stressed and overworked is our smile. Yet smiling is easy to do and costs nothing. When we smile, we release endorphins and dopamine which not only make us feel better, they help us learn quicker. If we feel good about ourselves and feel good about what we are doing, then we tend to make more positive choices
  3. Spend time and energy going after what you want/need, rather than avoiding what you don’t want/need. When we put our values at the heart of our decision-making, our lives begin to change dramatically.
