Emotional Intelligence at Oxford Uni

Laura Drury delivered the first in a series of 12 sessions for Oxford University students on Emotional Intelligence and its key to success for entrepreneurs. The sessions aim to cover everything from self-awareness and self-management to wellbeing and leadership, all underpinned by Laughology’s philosophy that laughter, humour and happiness makes you more effective.

As a student at university a lot of focus goes into what you want to do (of course – you have to learn your craft!). However very little consideration is given to why you’ve chosen this particular path, what kind of leader you want to be or even if you want to be a leader. To ask these questions and learn these skills beforehand can give a budding entrepreneur a competitive edge.

There is almost no such thing as a solitary profession. No matter what your vocation you will be working with other people. Laughology passionately believe that if you connect with people on a positive emotional level everything else will fall into place. To recognise this and enable strong relationships from the start means people will feel more engaged, be more motivated and loyal to your cause.

This university series is exciting as it’s the first of its kind for Laughology. It is being delivered over three semesters which means students are able to consider, apply, reflect upon and embed the skills they learn. If the first session is anything to go by we predict a lot of fun and some incredibly self-savvy students.
