Doctor, Doctor…Are you feeling OK?
Some days at work don’t feel like work when you are in such stunning surroundings as the venue booked by Northwick GPs for their away day (Laura Ashley The Manor if you’re interested). Ice lollies provided on afternoon break!
Those attending were all trainee GPs at various levels of their training - hard-working young people juggling new careers and often new relationships; moving house; AND coping with the politics that are currently affecting junior doctors. These people have the potential to be unwell themselves.
So we spent the afternoon taking them away from their usual intense day-to-day which they fully embraced – introducing the science and psychology of cognitive humour techniques and happiness triggers to improve and maintain their own wellbeing.
The second part of the day we focused on positive communication skills. Working in groups we explored differently scenarios that show hard it can be to communicate in a style that isn’t your own and how to overcome challenge in their working environment. We ended the day with a short introduction to Transactional Analysis.
