Bubble Trouble - helping teachers stay sane in their bubbles

The start to the school year has been different, to say the least. Initially there were mixed messages. You're going back to school. No you’re not. Yes you are. But only if you have a vowel in your name.

Eventually we were all put in lockdown and the New Year positivity was dashed. Amid the uncertainty, Laughology’s Head of Happiness, Stephanie Davies, wanted to share information to support all the brilliant educators, support teams and social workers tasked with the job of keeping it all going, so she hosted a free webinar; Bubble Trouble - The Art of Getting On and Staying Sane.

Schools have become very different in lockdown and education has never been tougher. Schools need to balance their online and classroom provision while creating Covid-safe spaces and providing additional support to families.

Working and planning has intensified, as have working relationships. Laughology’s Stephanie Davies teamed up with her favourite learning partner, Independent Thinking’s Ian Gilbert, to provide tips for educators, plus some much needed laughter, through this free webinar.

In the spirit of lockdown, takeaways are allowed and here are our top takeaways from the session:

  • Widening your ‘go-to’ circle of advisors will help you further understand why people have different beliefs. Avoid always going to the same people and be aware of creating an echo chamber.
  • Help children understand the different levels of listening by using fun activities.  This will help with your online learning.
  • Sometimes our thoughts can be a little wonky because our feelings get in the way of facts or reality.  Lockdown doesn’t help this as we can’t have the ‘watercooler’ moments in the staffroom that help us check-in with people who offer different perspectives.  Ask yourself if your thoughts are wonky.  Check-in with others in your wider circle who might help you think differently.  At Laughology we call this a 'rebel boardroom check-in'.
  • There are some things we just can’t control in this mad new world.  Focus on the things you can control and put the stuff you can't in your chuck-it bucket.

If you missed this free webinar you can catch the replay and stop your bubble bursting.
