Effective learning
“Humour is a way of saying something serious.”
(T. S. Eliot)
Laughology as a life coaching technique uses humour to unlock the latent confidence and effectiveness inside everyone.
We have developed Laughology for Life® in collaboration with HR managers, teachers, parents, carers and organisations working in education and the community, such as The Comedy Trust and Creative Partnerships.
Make your best practice even better
Laughology can work with you to improve your workplace, be it an office, shop, school, residential service or any other environment where internal and external communication are key, and the morale, health and well-being of clients, pupils, customers and staff matter. We bring our expertise in research, monitoring, working methods, strategic thinking and practical problem-solving to help you with your organisation or project, however large or small. Please contact us for further information: kirsteen@laughology.co.uk.
Absenteeism because of stress is widespread in both private and public sectors, with teachers, social workers and local government staff claiming an average of 10.7 sickness days a year. Research shows that laughter increases the natural production of endorphins - the body’s happiness hormone.
Learning can be fun - but teaching?
Laughology encourages an approach to learning that is safe, fun and engaging. We work with you, so that the events are designed around the needs of your school, yet also tailored to the needs and aspirations of each child.
Every Child Matters and every child can laugh! Our sessions help to enhance:
- learning and retention,
- emotional intelligence and resilience,
- creativity and imagination for learning,
- positive interaction,
- self-esteem and confidence.
It doesn’t end when we leave, because teachers can go on using the techniques and methods that Laughology brings. It gives them sustainable and practical tools that complement and support their teaching of the curriculum. Laughology events are good for both teachers and pupils.
What people say
“It’s given the teachers a better understanding of how to use the different strategies in the classroom that can facilitate kinaesthetic and visual learning ...”
“pupils, it’s been a rich and intensive experience ... A lot of them said it got them interacting with people they wouldn’t normally speak to. They respected and listened to each other more.”
Dr Denise Peerboy, Liverpool John Moores University
“They say laughter is the best medicine. Stephanie Davies has managed to deliver a real injection of humour to staff and students alike whilst bringing her own unique brand of creativity to Newheys Business and Enterprise College. You have to see 30 members of staff taking part in Laughology training to believe it.”
James Kerfoot, Assistant Head, New Heys Specialist Business and Enterprise College, Merseyside
All the training and consultancy we provide is aligned with current strategy and policy guidance such as Every Child Matters and the National Curriculum, and it is based on the needs of the young people and teachers we work with.
A recent research project with the Comedy Trust, and funded by Creative Partnerships, looked at the effectiveness of humour and laughter in education. Laughology’s intervention at Alsop High School, Liverpool was shown to provide a high-quality learning experience for teachers and young people:
“The intervention created a positive emotional energy amongst teachers and young people, and should be perceived as something that can be incorporated into the curriculum to benefit learning and personal development of staff and young people.”
