Communication & engagement
We know how important it is to get your messages across effectively, on time and within budget. We can provide you with a full communication and engagement strategy. From developing a leaflet to advertise what your service offers to developing and delivering a year-long programme to engage a whole community in order to improve public health and well being.
Social marketing involves the systematic application of techniques used in commercial marketing to encourage a shift in attitude and behaviour amongst a target audience. For social marketing techniques to be successful the messages, mediums and placement of messages must be carefully chosen and reviewed.
We start by finding out as much as we can about the target audience as well as what motivates them. We ensure the messages we give are clear and understandable and we place the messages where the target audience go.
It is important that the messages are credible and easily absorbed into the target audience’s culture. With roots in positive psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy, sociology and social marketing Laughology provides the perfect model for helping you to effectively communicate with diverse target audiences.
We can help you to:
- get your message across
- problem solve
- improve health and well being
- reduce health inequalities
- communicate and engage effectively
- alter perceptions and behaviour and sustain those changes

What people say
Jacqueline Robinson, Head of Engagement and Involvement for NHS Knowsley Health and Wellbeing says,
“One of my goals as Head of Engagement and Involvement has been to lead the engagement and involvement of local people to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease rates and more importantly inform local people about preventative programmes of work underway. To do this it is essential that we encourage people to have free Health Checks so that we can signpost and treat those at higher risk, and also support those not at risk in taking advantage of activities to keep them healthier and fitter in the future. For example giving up smoking, weight management classes, physical activity programmes...
Laughology have worked with us for the past 12 month in developing innovative ways of sharing this information in a creative and fun way to ensure we reach as many people as possible and in doing this ensure we consider different people’s learning styles.
We launched Knowsley at Heart in October 2008 and had a mixture of play performance, local comedian to share important messages and also to make it light and fun as well as informative. Since the launch Laughology have worked in partnership with NHS Knowsley staff to train local people in the Knowsley Community Health Champions programme to talk to their friends about stroke, heart disease, vascular disease and ways of reducing their risk.
The Laughology model has also been incorporated into our cardiac rehabilitation programmes ensuring that patients learn to relax and take a more positive view of life.
Thanks to the team at Laughology, we can enable serious messages to be translated in creative formats, which are so enjoyable people don’t feel they are being lectured or “talked at”, instead it’s become a two way method of communication which collectively we are all learning from.”
Pat Faragher, Head of Fundraising, Claire House Children’s Hospice
“It is difficult to find a training company who can engage with a wide range of people on so many levels and deliver training and coaching which is both informative and thoroughly entertaining. Laughology prove without doubt that learning can be fun. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this young innovative company.”
