“The work Laughology is doing is great, its really is important to laugh and keep you sense of humour through life’s ups and downs. It was something that kept me going after my surgery recently and why I am using humour and laughter to help raise money for the wonderful team of people that helped look after me.”

Laughology recognised in health care practice

Laughter as the best medicine is a notion that has been around for years, though only recently has research began to prove the physical and mental benefit of laughter and humour. There is a wealth of research into the positive benefits of using laughter and humour in healthcare, though there has always been skepticism around its use in medicine.

Laughology is now being recognised by some of the most crucial health services as a positive intervention to aid healing and as therapy. The great thing about Laughology is it focuses on thought process and therefore is non-intrusive and can be taught and used in rehabilitation as it focuses on how we think and feel and therefore how we behave rather than the act of going in and trying to encourage laughter, which some patients and carers may feel apprehensive about. If the sessions by-product is laughter then this is a bonus for both patients and carers.

Many health organisation are now implementing Laughology is their place of work for carers and patients. The British Heart foundation has recognised the benefits of Laughology and has invited us to present how and why Laughology matters in health care at their annual conference in York 3-5th Oct. You can also read more about Laughology on Page 3 of the British Heart Foundation newsletter.
