999: What's your emergency? I've just busted my gut laughing, thanks to the Giggle Doctors. This crack team of laughter medicine experts are the latest nominees for the National Happiness Awards.

The squad of specially trained performers bring joy and laughter to sick and disabled children as part of Theodora Children's Charity; an organisation which believes that all children deserve laughter. It is on a mission is to contribute to the wellbeing of children in hospitals, hospices and specialist care centres by providing visits from professional performers who have been trained to work in a medical environment - or Giggle Doctors.

There's much truth in the adage that laughter is the best medicine and each year over 33,000 children benefit from visits by the Giggle Doctor team, which has been nominated in the Happiest Team category by Alice Barley, Fundraising and Communications Manager, for Theodora Children's Charity.

She said: "The team brings light and laughter to the children and their families, helping to increase opportunities for play, reduce stress and anxiety and improve their experience of the medical environment."

Despite being a small charity with limited resources Theodora Children's Charity invests in its troop of Giggle Doctors, who have an annual training budget to use to attend training events throughout the year, such as artistic workshops. The charity also understands the importance of workplace wellbeing and encourages flexible working and personal development. Several members are studying towards professional qualifications or practicing other professions.

Can your workplace or school measure up to Theodora Children's Charity? You may not be lucky enough have Giggle Doctors; but is there someone who makes it a better place to work, or maybe your organisation values your happiness and wellbeing.

There are six categories in the National Happiness Awards 2018. Nominations are promoted and shared extensively online and winning an award can raise the profile of your organisation.
