Nominate your business or organisation for a National Happiness Award 2018

The National Happiness Awards 2018 are open for business and it’s time to recognise your business or organisation or make an individual happy by making a nomination.

The process is simple and the rewards could be great. There are high-value prizes for winners and runners up, plus all the benefits of being recognised by the UK’s boldest and brightest awards scheme. Even the act of nominating boosts moral and shares the love.

There are two award sectors: workplace and education. Workplace award categories are; Happiest Workplace, Happiest Workplace Person, Happiest Team. Education award categories are; Happiest School, Happiest Pupil, Happiest School Person.

Here are a few of our favourite education nominations so far:

Happiest School Person: Charlotte Western, Bay Leadership Academy, Heysham, Lancashire

“Charlotte is an absolute delight. She is always cheerful. She is the embodiment of happiness and fun. She walks down the corridor and joy follows her. She is always smiling, laughing, and joking. She attends all school productions bringing happiness at the front door for all the parents and guests. All students, parents and teachers thrive off her happiness. She creates cakes for work occasions and delivers cooking and baking wellbeing sessions for the staff.”

Happiest School Person: Loretta Gray, Crestwood Community School, Hampshire

“Loretta is a light in everyone’s day. Whenever you visit her office, you can’t help but smile from ear to ear. She has time for everyone, sees the positive in every situation and her good humour and laughter are infectious. She’s so caring and always goes the extra mile to look out for others by checking in on people, telling jokes and leaving little presents in staff pigeonholes. Loretta goes out of her way to think up new competitions and games for the school Facebook page to get people involved and make them smile, and her Monday Motivation posts are hugely popular with staff, students and parents alike. This year, Loretta was featured on Working Class White Men on Channel 4, where a past pupil spoke about how she had supported him at school, helping him on his way to Cambridge University. I can say unreservedly that she is one of the happiest people I’ve ever met and that we’d be so much poorer for it if she wasn’t around.”

Happiest School: Milton Hill Primary School, Southend, Essex

“With over 46 languages spoken and many pupils coming from the most disadvantaged backgrounds we provide opportunities that our families would not otherwise have to ensure they can ‘Dream it, Believe it and Achieve it’. We actively engage parents in their child’s learning through workshops, celebration days, assemblies, parent and child sessions, shared lunches, Grandparent days and coffee drop-in sessions. A large pastoral team supports parents and pupils with social and emotional needs and always offers support and advice. Who else has a real plane, transformed into an amazing learning space by staff? We passionately believe in nurturing and developing staff as well as pupils. A wellbeing package for staff provides wellbeing days, personal resilience training, a staff celebration board in the staff room celebrating achievements, free yoga classes, gym membership and outstanding CPD because happy staff equals happy pupils. We work closely with our elderly population, our youngsters regularly visit them in the local home where they read with them, draw, sing and play games. They also come to us for Christmas lunch. Milton Hill has gone from an undersubscribed school to the school of choice.”

Laura paid a visit to Cambridge at the start of this month to talk to the support and admin teams for Wellcome Sanger Institute, Wellcome Genome Campus Connecting Science, EMBL – EBI, Redgate and Babraham Institute! We needed two sessions to fit everyone in! The subject matters were Communication, Influence and Growth Mindset and she had to engage a bit of the latter on her way to the venue after taking an accidental wrong turn into a traffic jam! Thankfully she arrived on time to the beautiful surroundings of Hinxton Hall.
