Stand-up for Red Cross

At Laughology we love a good laugh and we love it, even more, when we can do some good whilst having a laugh. We pride ourselves on our super-power ability to make others laugh for good, and last month we exercised this to its full effect when we trained some of the brilliant people at the Red Cross in stand-up comedy skills for a fundraiser.

We ran three, two-hour sessions over three weeks and facilitated a fundraising comedy show at the end of the scheme.

The training covered writing material, performing a routine, confidence tricks and techniques, reading a room and performance skills.   Our budding stand-ups each invited their friends and families to the performance event and all money raised from tickets sales went to the charity.

Laughology has run scores of similar events and volunteers have always fed-back how positive the experience is. Some people have even considered developing their routines further in comedy clubs. The training is one of the best ways to learn presentation and communication skills, as well as how to manage an audience.

Stephanie Davies taught the Red Cross group and compared the show, just to test that her own comedy superpowers hadn’t vanished.  The performance was attended by over 120 people and over £3500 was raised.

The stand-up comedy programme is a great way to raise money for your charity of choice and can be delivered in workplaces as a team building experience.  If you’re interested in doing something similar, let us know.  You’ll learn a lot more than just comedy and win the respect of your colleagues.
