Stand up for Haven House
Each year we raise money for charity by hosting comedy awards in which we team up with business to train a team of volunteer, amateur comedians who them perform their routines at a gala fundraising evening.
This year we teamed up with Haven House Children’s Hospice and a large high street bank to host the first comedy awards in London. The generous bank, which provided the volunteers, also agreed to match the money we raised through sponsorship, donations and ticket sales to the event.
Our brave comedians underwent a three-week training course during which Laughology experts taught them presentation skills, how to structure material, how to develop a routine and how to work an audience. The volunteers wrote and developed their own material and each took to the stage on the gala night, delivering their routines to a packed house of friends, family members and colleagues. The volunteers came from all levels in the organisation.
It was a great opportunity for team building within the organisation and also raised much needed funds. Around £2500 was raised on the night and donations are still coming in so with the bank’s generosity, the hospice will benefit from over £5000.
