Plane sailing for Thomas Cook

Being part of the UK’s most dynamic L&D consultancy is always fun, but sometimes the job comes with added benefits, which Stephanie discovered on a recent visit to Manchester Airport to meet Thomas Cook

While she is no stranger to unusual working environments having delivered events in a nuclear power plant and on a navy ship, at the airport she found herself in the cockpit of a passenger airliner.

Thankfully there were no passengers on board and the plane remained firmly on the ground. Stephanie was however, allowed airside as a special treat and got to witness the process that takes place when a plane is manoeuvred out of a hangar, which is a great example of brilliant communication skills.

Horns and signals using coloured flags are used instead of traditional communication.  Watching and hearing this process showed the importance of strong team and communication skills and how working together in these areas really can drive success.
