Meet the rebels

Over the last few months, we’ve been working on our diversity agenda and, as part of this, we have created a rebel boardroom. Not another tick-box exercise, I hear you sigh. Well no, actually. On the contrary.

Here at Laughology we put our money where our mouth is when it comes to our values. We believe diversity is more than a statement at the bottom of an email. It only happens when you act, which is why we have recruited a brilliant group of people from different backgrounds to our own, who will help us make more diverse decisions and hold us to account when we’re not diverse.

We picked people who think differently to us because we hold our hands up and admit that the Laughology team all have similar interests and backgrounds.

Inclusivity is about diversity of thought, as well as cultural background. However, often it’s only the latter that organisations focus on, which is why diverse teams who look different often all think the same, sharing similar experiences as well as interests.

For true diversity, we need to look beyond the visual and open our workplaces and minds up to people who have different interests and backgrounds. We need to be prepared to hear these differences, work with them and understand the immense benefit they have for creating truly inclusive cultures.

Last year we asked for people to apply to be rebels. We had a brilliant response and considered them all as blind CVs. We are delighted to introduce our four rebels:

  • Saanwal Karmat Barlass
  • Chris Lewis
  • Shelley Jacobs
  • Yara Lisk

Our rebel boardroom will meet once per quarter with one of the Laughology team to discuss and challenge our thinking on certain issues. They will also be there for team members to contact on issues or challenges.

Their overall objective is to support us to be more diverse in our actions and decisions. Their first challenge will be to review our business plan and strategy and help us identify areas where we can improve. We’ll be in regular contact and we welcome them to the growing Laughology family with big virtual hugs. You can find out more about our rebels here
