Thanks to a neurological process called unconscious bias, we’re all impelled to prefer people who look like us, act like us and share our interests. Meanwhile, the world is becoming smaller, increasingly diverse and is also half female.

This juxtaposition is one of the big problems of modern commerce.

Unconscious bias causes us to make subconscious judgments and assessments of people and situations. It’s influenced by our background, cultural environment and personal experiences. Unfortunately, it also hinders an organisation’s competitive edge, as well as its development.

Organisations that recognise this and create ways to be consciously inclusive thrive, while those which remain stuck in limiting patterns of behaviour miss out on new ideas and opportunities.

The first step to true diversity is inclusion and understanding how unconscious bias can impact this. This workshop will help your people and teams develop strategies to recognise biases in the way we work and the processes we create.

In the modern commercial landscape, the disruptor is king and fundamental change can happen in any sector at any time. Touch screens, Uber and austerity are just a few examples of new developments that have had huge impacts on the organisations affected by them. And that impact is not always good – you only need to look at Blackberry, London black cabs and local authority budgets to see what can happen.

Problems come in many shapes and sizes; expansion, contraction, lack of budgets and resources, new competition, personnel challenges, mergers, acquisitions and transformation. All organisations face them eventually, and to cope and conquer they need their people to be innovative and creative problem-solvers. Unfortunately, these are frequently cited as key skills lacking in today’s workplaces.
